CHICAGO WATER TOWER
built 1869
paper
model scale 1:400
The Water Tower houses the 138-foot standpipe necessary to pressurize the city's water supply. Just two years after it was built, the Great Chicago Fire destroyed much of the city around it, but the little tower miraculously survived. Since then, its preservation has come to symbolize the city's perseverance and ambition.
A 1:500 scale postcard version of this model is also available from Wurlington Press
