Mount Vernon 1:500 scale miniature paper model, about 2 inches wide by 1.75 inches tall when built This plantation near Alexandria, Virginia was home to President George Washington for 40 years. The original farmhouse was enlarged by Washington several times as he added to his landholdings and expanded the plantation. The west side of the house is flanked by colonnades connected to symmetrical outbuildings around a curved driveway. The east side of the house is an unusual two-story piazza overlooking the Potomac River. Read more:
