Brooklyn Bridge 1:4000 scale miniature paper model, about 5 inches wide by 1 inch tall A masterpiece of 19th-century engineering, the 1,595-foot span was by far the longest suspension bridge when it was built. The stone and steel cable structure was conceived by John Roebling, but engineered and built by his son Washington Roebling. After fourteen long years of work the bridge was finally opened to traffic in 1883. Read more:
