2855 W. Lyndale

This house was likely one of the oldest on the block, dating from early 1882. The city directory from that year lists its first owner William J. Wood as simply living on "Johnston Ave. near California Ave." implying that there were not yet house numbers on the street, or that there were so few houses it would not be difficult to find.

The deep prairie-style brick porch was likely added in the 1910s or 20s, and in its last years its crookedly-sagging foundation gave the rest of the house a rather dreary look.

The house was demolished in April 2017.
