FLATIRON BUILDING
built 1902
paper model scale 1:1000
This wedge-shaped building was designed by architect Daniel Burnham to take advantage of the narrow triangular block where Broadway and Fifth Avenue meet. While the skyscraper was not the tallest in New York, it quickly became famous for its dramatic angles and Beaux Arts terracotta decoration, as well as the furious winds which swirled around its sidewalks.
A 1:1500 scale postcard version of this model is also available from Wurlington Press
