Obverse: Gorges de Daluis (A.-M.). - La Tête de Femme Publisher: J. Gilletta et Cie MNM#01-01349 Sandstone pillar with a hat alongside route D902/D2202 at south entrance to the Var river gorge. The 6 kilometer route through the gorge was built in 1923 for the Alpes-Maritimes railroad to Guillaumes. The track was abandoned after bridges (including the Pont de Berthéou just west of the rock formation) were blown up during WWII. Nowadays the route is famous as a scenic and hair-raising "balcony road" along the edge of the cliffs of the narrow gorge. N 44° 2' 24.9", E 6° 50' 13.8834" Other views of this formation: |
