Many, many years later, a worn imitation-leatherbound copy of The Elson Grammar School Reader Book One lays on the floor in a pile of paperback novels. A piece of masking tape on the cover reads "$1." Whether the boy has grown old, or died, or moved away, I do not know. Now his shirts and socks and ties, his books, his dishes, his towels and sheets, are all laid out for an estate sale.
