Mission Dolores 1:500 scale miniature paper model, about 3.5 inches long when built The Spanish established the Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores) to the native Californian Ohlone people here in 1776, with the chapel dedicated in 1791. The small settlement that grew up around the mission exploded into a major city in just a few years after the 1849 Gold Rush. Read more:
